Peyton Manning Would Have Been Pulled for Backup Brock Osweiler if Broncos Needed to Throw Hail Mary | Yardbarker.com

I know, I know, "bu...bu...but it was just for the Hail Mary". It's deeper than that. The "Sheriff" has lost his fastball, and for anyone that knows about football knows that the thought of pulling Peyton at anytime down one score during the 2 minute offense is serious. I'm doubting that he makes it through the year without having to take a couple of weeks off to rest the arm. Good thing they structured his deal the way they did.

2012: $18 million, fully guaranteed.
2013: $20 million, everything guaranteed unless there is a neck issue.
2014: $20 million, everything guaranteed except for neck.
2015: $19 million, not guaranteed.
2016: $19 million, not guaranteed.
Total: 5 years, $96 million; $58 million in guarantees; $18 million in full guarantee.

But you know if something crazy happens this year those lawyers and agents will blame the arm and not the neck so he can get that extra 40 mil from 2013-2014 :win:

Broncos will summon goons for any additional neck injuries that need to be incurred, that is ALOT of guaranteed money for a guy that does not look 100%

It's obviously not "deeper than that"

Osweiler can throw the ball further than Manning. And if you're 60 yards from the end-zone, you probably want a QB who can throw it 60 yards...

:dead: @ "the thought of pulling Peyton at anytime down one score during the 2 minute offense is serious"

A Hail Mary is only part of the 2-minute offense in the strictest sense of the word. Hell, it's barely even a real play. It's the professional version of the game "500" if the QB yelled JACKPOT after he chucked the ball...

This is a NON-STORY.

If Manning was being pulled at the beginning of the drive with 2 minutes left, that's one thing. If he is being pulled for one play for a guy that can throw the ball farther than he can, that's no more of an insult than when he is pulled off the field in favor of a kicker who can kick the ball better than he can.

I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to downplay this. I would assume you saw the game and clearly saw that Peyton could not throw the ball deep without it hanging and fluttering. If not, please go see the highlights of the first quarter. Peyton has been in situations before where a HM was necessary and he wasn't pulled. He might have to learn to play in a system instead of his "thanks for the play coach but I'll make all the changes at the line" offense because defenses are gonna bring safeties up and dare him to beat them deep. Which was evident he couldn't do Monday.

Its not nothing to make a fuss about but the thread starter has a point. I've never heard of a starting franchise QB getting taken out for anything unless its an injury or a blowout.

I disagree...so then you start pulling him before the half as well when you're at the fifty yard line. If this isn't anything big, how many times has he been pulled from a game for another QB to throw the hail Mary?...and I'm not trying to be funny when I ask, I just haven't seen it happen to him

It's no different than the Shaq example that was listed above or when a left handed reliever is brought into to get the last out of a game. It doesn't mean the guy is being replaced, it means there is a specific instance in the game where another player might be more effective.

It would probably be more common in the NFL if decisions like that weren't always faced with so much unnecessary criticism.

You sound like ESPN with this thread.

shyt is non a story. I was at the game and Peyton passes looked like they always have. He was just off and I think was due to rust.
I wasn't complaining tho :whew:

Anyway, whats the problem if the Broncos don't want their 100 million dollar quarterback with neck issues throwing his arm out trying to chuck the ball 60 yards downfield?

Teams rarely try hail marys in the first half. Usually teams just play it conservative and throw a short pass and hope the guy gets clear.

Maybe he hasn't ever been pulled for a hail mary, I don't know. What I do know is that a hail mary is not a precision pass. You're just relying on brute arm strength and hoping for a lucky bounce. If Ndamukong Suh could throw the ball 80 yards with little skill or accuracy, I'd see nothing wrong with bringing him in to throw that pass even if he is otherwise awful at passing the ball.
