So does this year mark the year that hip hop officially becomes an "old heads" genre?

For years people said hip hop was a young mans game, but after listening to this new Mobb Deep album it's clear the old heads are some of the only ones putting out quality. "B-but they not selling tho" In current year only Dot is (currently the only hip hop artist in the top 30 on the billboard 100 as of today) and he's about to be 40 in a couple of years.

They only say hip hop is a young man's game because of the energy and effort the grind took. Convincing a grown adult to sign a rape/360 deal is a lot harder than convincing a 18 year old thirsty to be famous.

The game has evolved to the point where people can give us music without all of the extra hoops to jump through. The older artist take it more seriously because they have to. They got families to feed. The younger artist came up in the microwave music try to go viral era. Quality music isn't as important to them as being famous. Why labels are 360 dealing them all.

Y'all so corny.
Ain't no genre of music based off age.

Mafukkas who was saying rap was a young man's game was dumb mafukkas.

Music is music.
It’s been older artists for years that put out rap albums that flopped. And every year new young artists that flop.

The problem with goofys is that they somehow equate rap to sports, like there is some limit to what your body or mind can do. It's the dumbest thing I read every time I log on somewhere. It's still a fairly new genre. Imagine telling Charlie Wilson, Prince, B.B. King etc they had to stop making music after a certain age.

This is some local hip hop, but I have a hard time spiritually thinking about the same

That said, I'm glad that there are rappers still making stuff for my generation. They all happen to be of my generation though, lol. :russ:

Didn't they say that at 2024/2023 the billboard 100 was full with rappers?

Edit:
Rap in 2024: The genre's share of #1 singles on the Hot 100 surged to 38%, its highest since 2018.

It shouldn’t ever be one or the other though really…because it’s art, it’s subjective, we all like certain stuff more/less than other stuff, that’s alright. The problem is when one main thing is dominating the spotlight and getting all the support and attention while other colors and shapes and shhit don’t even get a push.

Nas did a great thing with this whole older MC rollout, it’s not to replace the kids or anything now, it’s just to add variety. Instead of just pizza all day everyday, now you got steak and lamb and veal and shhit getting a nice spotlight and billboard too…maybe you want to expand your palate and try those (or not, if you don’t that’s fine, we eatin tho!!). This shhit is so refreshing because for 1, it’s just good…but secondly, it’s because we’ve been getting fed pointless calories/bullshyt for the last decade plus, lol…the difference in quality level is glaring

2024 might end up being a one off for the decade mainly because of the beef and the run that Kendrick went on. Tyler, Megan future also dropped shyt as well. 2023 was terrible for rap, might have been their worst year since the early 90s
