Lucius' character and story has no similarities to none of them. Lucius is essentially the same character from Hustle & Flow if they continued the story and he blew up and became a music mogul. The only real Hip Hop mogul, Lucius shares similarities with is Master P.

My two biggest gripes with the show:

1) the story moves too fast

2) Lucius has the least musical input of anybody, but his music is supposed to be why Empire (the label on the show) is what it is. They have him as some legendary rapper, but you have his legacy song be "You're So Beautiful". We don't really get to hear anything that makes his character believable as a rapper in the way that Jamal is believable as a singer. Hakeem is more believable as a struggling rapper than Lucius is. The songs that Lucius performs on the show are songs that he wrote and produced. None of them are convincing IMO. It would be dope if they had a lyricist write for Lucius's character.

That's possibly why they focus more on him doing R&B songs than rapping. Last season, he only had one rap song and the rest were R&B records.

It's like I understand it's appeal but it's like...

shyt don't know if it want's to be the black "Glee" or The Wire for homos...it's a clusterfukk and gimmicky as fukk. I think the worst thing about it is that it's format is damn near a sure fire success. You're gonna have musicians who don't even like the show coming on just because it's a good look which will help prop it up.
