OKC dodged a bullet by not signing him to the max. Being only a fan, we can't see the dedication a player puts in his game and on improving his game. That's the management job, they see this stuff. They can tell (50-50) if a player is dedicated and how much the ceiling is.
The ceiling for Harden is obviously high, he is young and has potential . But that depends how hard he works. Before the season he was already proclaimed as top 5 SG in the league and from what we've seen he's far away from that. At some point he CAN reach there but there's a chance he doesn't.
He is talented but at this point he's not worth the max. He's lazy on the defense, flops more than a fish, and completely ignores the couching staff. Hes a headcase, and being proclaimed as a top SG in the league has made him this lazy ass where he thinks he can just play loose and lazy as he can cause he's that good.
Superstars are made on the court and not by media. He can be ranked by anyone as top 5 but he still needs to show for it.
When? Doesn't look like anytime soon. He needs a kicking in the butt, but being that young and all that money, what motivation is there to work harder? At this point, it looks like he just cares about the money and his celebrity status more than making the Rockets a contender. He has to improve all facets of his game. And I don't think he can. This is practically the best of Harden we will see.
