I'm surprised that black and brown people with African lineage haven't produced and written our own big budget versions of these movies. Whether their biblical stories, ancient/medieval epics, sci-fi, or even super hero movies.
Can't blame Americans of European descent though. Their leaders don't care about black people or our contributions unless it makes them a profit or they benefit in some other way.
Is a Black Moses like (insert any A-list 30-70 year old black actor) really going to benefit them over Christian Bale

My original thoughts had those 2 names but I know better to really hope for that. I know Danny Glover had a script or something for a movie on one of the slave rebellions.
I don't like our history being limited to slavery, but the fact that nobody is green lighting it (not sure if thats the correct term) lets me know it's either trash, or it doesn't give the masses a lead character they'd feel or relate to.
To answer your question: I'm surprised because I keep getting reminded that slavery, inequality, and racism is over, but the mindset is still here from the darkest shades to the palest whites.
Entertainment may not seem like a big deal to some posters, but people would be lying if they said that TV, movies, and the media in general didn't have a big role into how we came up. Its western culture, and it influences us whether we're conscious of it, or not.
The money has to come from us. I'm not a collionionaire yet so I personally couldn't offer as much as an Oprah or Perry---but I will as soon as I can, especially if there are good ideas out there.
But Instead of expecting something from white Americans, then receiving Django, butler, blindside etc etc, and then blaming white people, uncle toms, and c00ns; I'd rather us have the choice in how we want to be depicted. I'd like to see our own critics give positive and negative reviews to our own films, and so the responsibility to produce greatness falls on us.
This exodus project isn't for us. Its for money and to keep the lie going a lil longer.

Where are the distributors, the studios, coming in to fill the budget of doing such a bid budget movie? It's a lot of politics in Hollywood, that's why black movies don't get made (correction: black movies about shyt don't get made), like I said in another thread we need to create our own studios and distribution companies so we don't have to white-wash our stories just to get (the money) it made.
Try auditioning for something as a black male/female and see if you don't get told to get a rhinoplasty, wear weaves/straighten your hair, lighten ya skin, and still don't get chose anyway. Ever notice how the most successful black actors had to give it up to the white man somehow? Lame ass "black Hollywood" could get together and start they own studios (and to be fair they should've done that a long ass time ago), but they're such bums they out here not doin shyt and satisfied with having bit parts or subservient roles. It's no reason Will fukkin Smith is the most bankable actor in Hollywood right now and he don't own a damn studio. Are you kidding me? I got a problem with black people makin it and not puttin they people on. I know y'all like to throw the word c00n around a lot, but to me that's the definition of a c00n.

The real reason black folks in general dont get on, then put their own on like every other race. is because we dont have a country we call home but america. the problem is we were oppressed right here in america by white americans. still are.
when you come from some where else(jews included). you have a mindset of pulling together. notice older blacks had the communities on lock. the further you go back and the closer you get to slavery. the closer we were as a people. WHY? because #1 we had to be, to make it. #2 we were closer to HOME(africa). the further in our mind we get away from africa. the further we get away from one another. even if all racism ended today. i mean all of it. blacks in general still wouldnt be all on top like some of us want to believe. and its simply because unlike other nationalities/races we dont ban together like that. if there was zero cism in the world. jewish folk would still pull for their own FIRST then you 2nd.
black people are on some We're all the same stuff. thats nice in theory but not realistic in practice. black people minus the cism. would be running around trying to start businesses with a bunch of folks from other races (since said people in these races are better candidates). vs finding your own that close enough that you can build up to be a perfect candidate. thats how everyone else works. but not us black folk. We have that kumbaya thing going to a fault.
