What's there to gain by falsifying numbers? The publicity that you falsified numbers? And the friction (operating costs and tax bill) on the income side?
Numbers of consumption are already incorrect because of the illegal downloads.

Anyway, great move by Hov in stretching out the distribution. Hopefully he goes on a ww tour for this album. Rocnation giving a lot of marketing people a lesson: Beyonce's Pepsi and H&M ads and now this.

I would think he has to do some sort of tour (because of the contract obligations he has to Live Nation)

So far the summer has shaped up nicely IMO (I'm enjoying Yeezus, although I understand a lot of people are divided on it)....Ye, Jay, and possibly another Em album before the summer ends....

But he didnt pay for it himself....He basically sold 1 million "copies" to Samsung to do whatever "they" want with it.

They could sell it back early as a Google Play exclusive for a period of time, but they are choosing to give it away.....its good PR for them.

On another note.....

So those who have Samsung/Android phones will be able to download this album 3 days before its July 4th release?

What about physical copies? Now don't they get pressed well before an in-store release? The only way they are sparred from this backfiring if say the July 4th is a digital release with physical copies to come later.

What I am saying is that this basically backfires if the album leaks 3-4 days because someone had a disc and uploaded it to the Internet.
