we teach about hip hop literacy and the social and historical constructions that fostered the birth of hip hop and how they continue on today.

and guess who is 90% of my students? :mjpls:

guess what race were the only ones to drop the course? :mjpls::usure:

more asians/ middle easterner's than blacks make up the demographics of this class. not knocking it, but damn, I'm disappointed in the black youth and their disillusionment with their own selves.

one black person. a male from jamaica.

black students always complain about a lack of classes that culturally appeal to them, outside of african-american studies, but always want a hook up on their grades when they get a black professor. :what:

What school is it? Unless its an HBCU, the demographics of the class will always be the same at PWIs

a school in western mass. and while it is a PWI, there is a black/minority population present, who should support this class before the trust fund babies
Maybe class seem pointless to a student who pays for school :ld:
a class that offers as many credits as the next class has just as much value. especially when it fulfills requirements for education and communication majors :manny:

Why would black people take it?

I'm sure they're well versed in hip hop literacy.

In truth you're birthing a bunch of little Rap Genius creators, so you're doing more harm than good :ehh:

fukk Rap and Music worship, music aint inspiring no one. Black people aint getting no higher off that shyt, just regressing. So it's good you haven't got black students, atleast we wising up to the evils set out to destruct us

This shouldn't culturally appeal to us, it's just another box/cell to keep us in. fukk all that

So basically you get up there like "hip haaap! It started in the park... :krs:".

There's no way I'd ever attend a class like this unless it was an Easy A, I like hip-hop but I'm not trying to attend 2 hour class on it.
Back in undergrad I'd attend class for 2 reasons required for my degree, or an easy A to keep my GPA up anything else :camby:

No offence breh but no black student who worked hard through high school and finally got into college is going to pick up a course like that....

I personally wouldn't.

so why do we study shakespeare then since you've been versed on him in high school? and how is it any different than taking a class to satisfy requirements? its not getting a degree in hip hop, its simply a course on it that you can take instead of studying hemingway or steinbeck.

whats the difference?
