MIAMI (WSVN) -- Five members of a South Florida family, including a nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital, were arrested after, police said, a narcotics bust led officers to discover a marijuana grow house inside their home.
Forty-three-year-old Wanda Hernandez-Tong, her husband, Orin Tong, and their three adult children Imani, Judah, Mariah are facing a slew of drug-related felony charges. Police said they searched the family's home at 130 N.W. 69th St. in Miami and discovered they were cultivating, growing and selling marijuana. Upon further searching the residence, police also found cocaine and four handguns.
JMH officials confirmed Hernandez-Tong is a clinical staff nurse at the hospital and has worked there since 2006. Wednesday afternoon, she appeared in bond court, and Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer set her bond at $15,000.
Jackson Health Systems spokesperson Jennifer Piedra released a statement that read, "Jackson policy states that employees have three days to notify their supervisor of an arrest. We then review the circumstances of any arrest and take appropriate action based on the level of the charges. We will suspend an employee immediately if it is a felony charge, pending the outcome of the case."
