One of the saddest stories I've ever seen….It contains unprecedented levels of :flabbynsick: that brings even puts the Larry Holmes Flabby & Sick anthem to shame.

There's literally a scene with a flabby and sick Lenny Cooke drunk and high singing Mario's You Should Let me Love you to a fat bytch. As great the as the movie was after a while it became hard to watch.

Dude truly had a shytty work ethic and an ego that could only be made from being an NYC high school basketball star. It was fukking baffling to see Foxy Brown's brother Galvin flying around the country with this nikka to basketball camps….

Dude had all the tools and blew it….

The best scene of the movie tho was the end……They show an older out of shape Lenny talking to the younger more athletic lazy & stand offish Lenny at a basketball camp almost as a cautionary to tale to future high school stars. Simultaneously motivating, inspiring, :ooh: & :to:

The end of trailer where Lenny is breaking down in tears too much :to:

Dude had all the talent in the world but probably needed a better circle of mentors. When you're young, you feel invincible.

They have screenings in various cities….Maybe you can find one in your city. I live in Philly and had to drive about a half hour to Bryn Mawr Film Institute in Ardmore to see it. More than worth it tho. The screening followed by Skype Q and A with The Safdie Brothers, the film’s directors, and Adam Shopkorn, the film's Producer but I left right after the movie (as did most people so I dunno what happened with that.)

The ending where he's talking to himself really hit me hard…..because it's actually footage of Lenny being lazy and stand offish at basketball camp while the rest of the camp is actively participating in drills and what not. It hit me hard because it made me think of all the mistakes I've made in my life when I was young that I would have done differently. Unfortunately for him it's really too late……but it motivated me because I'm blessed to haven't made mistakes that were as fatal and the few mistakes I did make are still correctable. Even tho I didn't want to at times, I still went to college and obtained a Ivy League degree because I saw the bigger picture. Dude completely threw away an NBA opportunity and could never understand sacrificing the now for later.

how did he go undrafted out of highschool since he was this big hyped up player?... i find it strange that no one took a chance on drafting him, or was he not really hyped at all but in New York or something?

When he was 19 as a senior he was ineligible to play High School Ball……so he spent 18 months without playing any unorganized basketball……then tried to declare for the NBA draft. :stopitslime: Scouts literally had no tape on this man for his Senior year, only the 2002 Roundball Classic or some games during his “junior” season at Northern Valley Regional.

Maybe someone takes a chance on him…….but with Kwame Brown flopping….it fukked it up for him even more.

He basically declared for the draft because an agent gave him $350,000. SMH

watching this shyt on showtime right now...shyt is damn depressing, and dude is terribly out of shape looking like jamarcus russell...especially sadder when you see all the other highschoolers at the time like bron, melo, telfair, jarrett jack, and a few others in this who made it.

That's a quirky ass theater, too. I love it there.
