So, Is It Just Me, Or Does The PS4 Have A Lot of Crap In Its Library?

I don't own an Xbox One, which may suffer from the same problem, so I'll limit this complaint to the PS4. I've completed the following games on the PS4:

Prey
Last of Us
Dying Light
Until Dawn
Wolfenstein 1, 2 and Old Blood.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Witcher 3
Dishonored 2 (haven't tried Death of The Outsider, but I've read it's more streamlined and not as open as the main games)
Sniper Elite 4 (amazing stealth game, one of the best, eclipsing even MGSV)
MGSV
Thief
Batman: Arkham Knight
Evil Within 2
Shadow of Mordor/War

I may be missing a couple, which I'll amend the list with when I'm able to recall them.

I visited Gamestop this evening, which I tend to do every week, looking for something to spend the weekend with. Just as I've done every single time I've been there since January, I spent half an hour browsing the store's selection of PS4 games, pulling the boxes and looking at each of their backs before returning them to the shelf. And just as I did last week, I walked out there without purchasing anything, soured on what seemed to be a glut of mediocrity punctuated by the aforementioned gems that I've already completed. Am I the only one who thinks the PS4's library is severely lacking when compared to PS3's? What am I missing? What can you recommend? I know Bloodborne is a favorite of many, but I'm not into games that're punishingly difficult. Tried RE7, which I found to be too scripted;because of that, and the fact that I don't care for Capcom's survival horror formula, RE2 doesn't interest me. Spiderman is Batman:Arkham [enter any installment] without, well, Batman. Being a fan of WRPGs and disliking JRPGs, I don't think Persona 5 would hold my interest for very long.

Day's Gone and Last of Us 2 seem to be the only reasons I'm even keeping the system and not selling it to buy an X and enjoy seeing all of my 360 titles augmented by its Backwards Compatibility.

Maybe I'm jaded or too picky, but a lot of the PS4's library is :trash:

I think it may be due to the fact that I'm a huge fan of immersive sims and CRPGs, which seem to be rare nowadays.

Only people who think Bloodborne is punishingly difficult are goofy as fukk. My wife beat Bloodborne and her favorite type of games is shyt like Until Dawn or Detroit.

Saying Spider-man is like Arkham because of a couple of similar gameplay elements is like saying Doom is like Metro because you use guns and it’s in first person. Arkham is WAY WAY WAY more forgiving and the feel of combat is more free-form.

Detroit, God of War (Reboot), Nier: Automata, Nioh, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4, Pyre, Infamous: Second Son, etc

There are plenty of great games on the PS4. Not even getting into remasters like Shafow of the Collosus, God of War 3, Uncharted Trilogy, etc.

Let’s not get into all the great non-exclusive games you can get for both systems.

But all the non-exclusive games look better on the X. Granted, I haven't played Spiderman, but I've read enough impressions from people who've played it and said it's Arkham without the bleak setting. I should have added Doom, since I played and loved it. Horizon Zero Dawn has been panned for having repetitive side quests and uninteresting NPC interaction. I tried Infamous Second Son, finding it kind of shallow; it's a game that was clearly a nice looking demonstration of the PS4's technical strengths, gameplay being an afterthought. Nioh? Eh, isn't that Team Ninja? Won't front, being in my late 30s, I'm old school. I played and beat Ninja Gaiden on the NES and even the trilogy on SNES. But Ninja Gaiden's gameplay didn't translate well to the Xbox or the 360, so I passed on Nioh. I can safely say it would have been returned after a few plays. Tried the demo for Nier:Automata and wasn't sold. Too....Japanese..God of War is one game I haven't bought and might get. I just don't like what I've read about how it's more narrative and there aren't many boss fights, which were the main draw of the installments before it. I loved Last of Us, but I haven't played any of the Uncharted games. I think I held off because of reviews and impressions that panned it for the cut scenes and scripted sequences. Again, TLOU sold me on their talent, being among my favorite games of this gen - perhaps ever. But Uncharted seems a lot more linear and far less grounded.

Day's Gone is going to be dope and will probably keep me occupied for months in the same way Witcher 3 did. Because of that, I'll prolly hold off selling it. Maybe it's the industry. I used to be an Xbox fan, coming from the 360 and its amazing library, but the botched launch of the One put me on the PS4.

Sounds like you letting small knocks of games keeping you from experiencing some really great games. Most of the games you talking about you can get for really cheap.

And Spider-Man is not Arkham. I tried to play it like Arkham when I first got it and was getting my ass kicked.

Ninja Gaiden Black was a GOAT-tier action game so what you mean “didn’t translate”?

Again, Arkham doesn’t feel like Spider-Man so you parroting that sentiment without playing the games is pretty stupid. You have loads of great games and you’re ignoring them based off perceived slights and assuming the worst off of them based off w couple of opinions while ignoring that the vast majority of all those games is overwhelmingly positive.

Nier:Automata is literally a masterpiece of artistic story-telling that takes full advantage of the video game medium and you’re saying it’s “too Japanese”.

Just trade your PS4 in and play backwards compatible 360 games because you seem like you have pretty limited tastes, breh. You complain that God of War is too narrative focused but you love The Last of Us. You complain about the supposed lack of boss fights in God of War but ignore 3 games with amazing boss fights in Bloodborne, Nioh, and Nier.

Your reasoning is beyond ludicrous. Spiderman is like the Arkham series? Uncharted was panned for cutscenes? Horizon was panned for side missions? Where are you reading this and why are you letting such small nuisances prevent you from trying out these games?

Oh so this is a low key troll thread
Nah, not at all. You asked where I read negative opinions of games like Spiderman and Horizon. ResetEra is where some people have panned them.

In all honesty, I think I’m close to becoming a PC gamer. I think the games that’re abundant on the PC - Western RPGs and immersive sims - are what I crave. I want more games like Dishonored and Witcher. I’m still keeping my PS4 for TLOU2.
