Mazda and Toyota have a dual plant together in Alabama. So if Mazda is fine with teaming up with Toyota, and keeping it all the way Japanese then I guess they aren't too different.

Globally Toyota cars are known for their reliability and ease of putting major parts on other cars. You could buy a Lexus and use a ton of Carolla parts in the same car.

That's the same with most parent-subsidiary companies and has been for a long time. GM has tons of interchangable parts between Cadillac, Pontiac, Chevrolet, GMC. Ford with Lincoln. Honda - Acura. Nissan - Infiniti.
