Any business is out to make money. I work in a hospital and even there its about making money.

It's not a charity, hell if I owned a business and were paying employees 8 a hour and suddenly 15 I'd slash hours, and figure out a way to get out of it.

I remember at my old job the it department was slashed and moved to india, and they started this content reingeering and ended up slashing so many jobs.

And these folks don't understand anyways if ff places are paying 15, now john doe with a bachelor in sociology will be competing with Joe schmo who dropped out of hs

Everyone should be paid more.

This will end up hurting everyone in the long run. Less people having jobs and more companies going under. I'm sure they'll raise prices even with all these cost cutting methods. Nobody will buy from there if the price is high and jobs are scarce. It's been a while since I ate there myself. Corporate greed will destroy it all. They have to maintain certain profits in order to keep the business running. They'll just keep cutting expenses until the bare minimum. Next a machine will prepare the food, it's coming, watch.

People being scared that fast food jobs will be automated is funny as shyt to me. I'm like, good they are shytty ass jobs that no one should want in the first place. At the same time I do realize that people feel that is there only option for employment and rely heavily on it to support their families. But I also believe there is a better opportunity, where you can do similar duties as you're doing in the fast food restaurant, but get paid more and that's where the energy should be focused, imo, not in line protesting to make your fast food job pay a "livable" wage.

Here come the robot lawyers

A lot of law is doing paperwork reviews and casework that can be done with software not actually arguing in court
I am going to be an attorney and fukk that. I read the article and it wasn't all gloom. Imagine a suit then cases being lost or dismissed because of a computer glitch. Someone saying they do not trust a computer.

Capitalism eating itself, it is only going to get worse. I don't see how anyone can support this.

This is what the present/future looks like.

Unskilled labour/work is now done by computers
Skilled labour is outsourced or done by foreign migrant for 1/3 of the price.

Unemployment will rise, cost living will still go up and social unrest will worsen. The elite must come up quick to prevent anarchy. With Chinese and Russians planning to dump the dollar, America will be on shaky legs. Basic income for Americans seems like the future option

These companies were gonna do this anyway regardless of what the minimum wage is.
Exactly. This is just a scare tactic...

And if you work in IT, you know how difficult it will be to automate all these jobs. Companies will invest MILLIONS and spend 5 years building basic HR and accounting software that doesn't even work then spend more millions and another 5 years trying to fix it. Now imagine having to do that with robots. We are a long way away from robots taking over every job...

The wage increase to $15 could easily be done. The CEO and other top executives would just have to take a paycut. But they're too greedy.

Instead of making 6 million a year they would ONLY make 3 million a year to cover wage costs...
How does this work in other industries, and in other companies not ran by people making 6 million a year? A mom and pop burger shop that employs 6 people at 10 an hour is supposed to just jump up to 15? I mean....this shyt is unrealistic. 15 dollars is too fukking much. Well, at least where I live. I know cost of living is higher elsewhere. If they want to increase it, they should make it make sense in regards of the cost of living. 15 across the board is dumb

In the Silver Lining
Customer Service is a skill..... Its the biggest industry in America.....

Maybe, depending on how you define transportation jobs, it actually may be the largest employed field. Yeah, transportation related industries............:leostare:..........if yall think R2-D2 flipping burgers is going to shake up somethings, wait till these driverless vehicles
start to get approved for certain tasks........:wow:.........I can see the faces of these trucking companies executives salivating with the amount of money that can be recouped by not needing CDL licensed drivers, or taxi/Uber type companies, or lawd have mercy public bus drivers.

This is real shiit, real public and backroom private conversations taking place right now. Real testing of products on highways occurring right now. Not an immediate overnight transformation, but its creeping in here...:dame:

I remember years ago in High School we took a tour of Procter & Gamble, As he was giving us a tour he led us to a room it was empty with nothing but machines at each table, He said this is a new area we build to replace workers with machines and he sort of paused at this area, I don't know if he cared maybe he knew some of the workers or maybe he wanted to let it sink-in. So many machines in one room I pictured a person at each desk out of a job so even people who "did things right" and went to school aren't safe. My computer just about fixes itself software wise the hardware has fail safes in place so it won't overheat besides putting in accessories or getting cooling gel for my processor i don't have to do much.

At the rate technology is going you won't even need people for basic fixes and replacements they will just repair themselves internally. . .uh oh skynet :dwillhuh:
