OP makes an interesting point but 12 months? Nah he doesn't need to release something that fast. But I agree he can't wait three years.

It'll be very interesting to see how his tour goes. I love the album but I'm not sure it has enough songs that will work super well live. Sherane and Real are the only songs on GKMC that don't really hit live. But with this album...I can't see Institutionalized, u, Momma, Mortal Man, For Free, For Sale. I'm not sure Wesley's Theory works unless Thundercat shows up.

Songs that work live: King Kunta, Alright, Hood Politics, How Much a Dollar Cost, I. Dunno about Complexion or You Ain't Gotta Lie.

breh, if fans are THAT fickle, that's on the fans, NOT Kendrick.

most spoiled unappreciative fan base there is in music.
I think that's ridiculous to say given the fact that rock fans and pop fans come and go as well. If anything, outside of country, hip hop has allowed artists the most longevity in recent years. Second, it would be on Kendrick because if your last album did not garner their interest, why would they be excited about what you do three years from now if you basically disappear? There are other artists that are very talented. He's not some legend where he can disappear for that long and just drop and still be the top guy. You're acting like historically artists were not putting out music constantly. The general music audience may have a short attention span, but hip hop is no worse than any other genre besides country which operates in an entirely different world.

the game is the game. that's the music business. look at Ludacris. He put out music all the time and was relevant for a long time but look at him now. He just dropped a new album and it don't even matter. He's irrelevant. As far as Kendrick Lamar, he got away with waiting 3 years to drop another album because GKMC was considered a "classic" and he had that "Control" controversy and a few features but that about it. This album wasn't wack but he doesn't contain songs that will sustain radio air play for the rest of year. He dropped this album in March and won't have any summertime bangers. I think he's at the point where his career can go either way. He needs to put out more material plain and simple.
Ludacris is a legend breh...

Legends are never 'irrelevant'.

I get your point tho...

Kendrick still building a brand. He has established NOTHING in comparison to TRUE legends.

The way I see it, he can listen to his press (stan) clippings and act like he really put out three clasaic albums (:laff:) or he can do what TRUE legends do, which is consistently put out a product that's timeless and universally acknowledged as great art.

His choice. He has talent. Great. Now build on it and reach your potential which won't come by releasing retread funk albums.

I honestly blame Jay-Z for this current state of hip hop over saturation. Before him rappers could wait 2 years or so to drop albums, but he came thru and dropped albums for about 8 straight years and spoiled us. And I'm a big Hov fan, but now u got cats like Gucci dropping 10+ projects a year, just to stay hot. No one got time to soft thru all that shyt. No other genre of music demands the artists to drop music every few months or once a year to stay relevant. I rather the artist take they time and craft something with a lasting impression than to hand me microwave rap. Just my opinion.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
When you put out a God tier album, you can wait 3 years

Meanwhile Drake drooped a project 2 years in a row and is completely terrible

Actually, in Drake's case, he only needs ONE hit single every 2 quarters. All of his albums have been mediocre at best. But people this is the age of iTunes. Drake can still eat and be a force off the strength of singles. Drake has a lane he's in and has been successful.

As far as Kendrick.... that's that bullshyt I'm talking about. I bet my next 4 paychecks nobody will be hyping this project in December. I think at the LATEST his next release date should be between September - November 2016 but that's just me.

And how u gonna drop an album right before spring with no spring/summer anthems :upsetfavre:. That's why this album will fade. GKMC was released in October 2012. But he released singles in April & July to create a buzz for the project. Then he was able to drop singles in January and March 2013 and still got spins over a year after he released the first single. With this album he dropped "I" in September which was forgettable :scusthov: he dropped one more single in February and released the album a month later. You see the difference.

I agree man, I appreciate music for what it is. I'm talking strictly if he and his label wanna mantain a mainstream fanbase. If he doesn't care at all about that then that's cool more power to him.

You want Kendrick to keep it deprived and only cosign with what radio loves... he's trying to keep the feeling we love alive

Basically you would rather Kendrick shake up the perfect chemistry of TPAB for some hits. Uh, no

OP just mad because he doesn't enjoy the highest rated album of all time

like klp said, maybe you don't like it, but theres no denying that its a flawless album, a masterpiece from ndpoint. SO no, he doesn't need to drop another album so soon.

And kdot just confirmed it during an interview, he said: "appreciate this album because the next one is going to be released in a VERY LONG time from now"
