you would think it would be easier to break that record now. considering how garbage the league is today compared to the 90's.

In the 90's you had multiple MVP quality players at almost every position.

Center, ewing, hakeem, shaq, D Rob
PF , Barkley, Malone,
sf, Nique (early 90s), pippen
sg, MJ, Drex, (kobe and AI in the late 90s)
pg, stockton, payton,

not to mention runnersups like shawn kemp, tim hardway, Zo, KJ, Reggie Miller etc.
making the all star team was bytch back then.

Now you only have MVP competition at three positions.

Shaq and Kobe in their prime years and that first year the KG, Pierce, and Ray Allen combo went to Boston were the only teams I thought had a shot.

Lakers - 67 Wins in 99-00
Boston - 66 Wins in 07-08

I thought Miami would have a chance as well, but Wade is breaking down. That run they had got me thinking they DO have a shot if Wade can ever play a full 82 + the playoffs again (I don't think he can)
