Stan Lee and Jack Kirby have confirmed that Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther Jr. were the inspirations for the creation of Magneto and Professor X of the X-men, which was first written at the hight of the Civil Rights movement in 1963. One of those things that you've (at least I have) always suspected but never new for sure.
