Nas was definitely giving Columbia a hard time, at one point.
They were trying to tell him what kinda records to make, and he wasn't with it. So he was back and forth with a few different managers. Matthew was one of them, lol. Which is why you randomly see Destiny's Child in the "You Owe Me" video. Nas's team was super shaky at the time. To say the least.

Never knew this. Dude was super low key with it. Makes sense now though how he was able to put Destinys Child on so easily. The DC story was that he was basically a Levar Ball that quit his job because he believed in the groups talent. That never sat right with me.
He spoke on managing Nas on his breakfast club interview a decade ago.
He managed him around the Stillmatic era after Nas fell out with Steve Stoute.
He said he stopped because Nas wanted a lower management fee and he couldn’t charge Nas less than he charged his own daughter Beyonce.
He also is prone to exaggeration because he said that Stillmatic was Nas “only number 1 album” which is a lie. Stillmatic debuted at number 5 and while it sold more than Nastradamus before it, Nas had two previous number debuting albums (IWW & I Am) and went onto have three more consecutive number 1 albums (Hip Hop Is Dead, Untitled, and Life is Good)

He became an A&R because he believed in his daughter and by extension her friends, he had big success with them then used that to leverage to work with other artists, it’s not neptoism.
Also is my mind playing tricks on me, but I could swear bsck in the day when the video for You Owe Me came out I remember a scene where Beyoncé was wearing the QB chain, but the video on YouTube doesnt show it?
