Russia has demanded an explanation from Recep Tayyip Erdogan after the Turkish president said he had sent troops into Syria to topple the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

The exchange was the first significant sign of friction between Ankara and Moscow since they restored ties this summer and comes as Russian-backed Syrian government forces press an advance into rebel-held areas of Aleppo.

In a speech on Tuesday, Mr Erdogan condemned the international community’s inaction over the deaths of civilians in Syria and said Turkey’s ongoing cross-border incursion was meant to “bring justice” against the “tyrant” Assad.

“We are there to end the rule of the tyrant Assad, who has been spreading state terror,” he said.

There is a shift in the mideast going on right now. Russia,Iran,Iraq,Egypt,Yemen,Syria,Lebanon are in the same camp. While Turkey and the Gulf States are on one side. Turkey is confused. They just had a couple and the EU is not fukking with them.

Erdogan talks tough but he will back down. He needs those nuclear plants, the Russian trade and tourists, the gas pipeline...

He will have to let Russia and Iran build theirs through Syria.

By the way its crazy how this entire syrian war is basically a proxy pipeline war

Turkey has to walk a fine line man. It probably wants to pivot over to Russia's side. But it's a member of Nato.. so if it looks like it's getting too close... well you know what the usa will do. :yeshrug:
