Point is, a lot of people are sick of Kelly's social media antics, including Jazz Cartier. Here's what the Toronto rapper had to say during an interview for this week's cover story.

"Last I checked, Councillor Norm Kelly was elected by the residents of Scarborough-Agincourt to represent their interests at City Hall, politically and otherwise. Are our tax dollars going to support his silly Twitter habit? Are we paying his salary to subcontract out his tweets to some misguided kids? If so, what a waste of taxpayers' money for a waste man. If other councillors started tweeting these corny hip-hop things like Norm does, would this be supported by City Hall and the mayor?

"At first I was like, 'fukk Norm Kelly,' because I think he's an actual bozo, but then I realized it's definitely not him running his Twitter account. It's some sell-out who's working for him, trying to keep him in the loop and keep him relevant by doing all this corny shyt. Whether he writes his tweets or not, I think he's just trying to cash in on black culture. He needs to do his job and stay out of rap. He needs to get back to work. He is a politician. He will never be hip-hop. Where are his tweets and RTs when it comes to real issues in this city - poverty, racism, youth unemployment, Black Lives Matter?

"He is literally making us look like a joke. Even if he was to - by the grace of God - run into any of these guys he's talking shyt to on Twitter, I'm pretty sure the end result wouldn't be a nice one. He's poppin' off pretty crazy. I used to have a lot of hate in my heart for Norm Kelly, still do, but I have other things to worry about. Someone needs to delete his Twitter account, though."

Back To Work, Norm Kelly
BY SEPTEMBRE ANDERSON

  • popped off on Twitterback in July about his problems with Drake, one of the 6 God’s loudest supporters was also the most unexpected—Toronto city councillor Norman Kelly.

The drama between Drake and Meek redefined beef for the social media age—with lots and lots of memes—and mirrored the one between 50 Cent and Ja Rule in hilarity. Remember when Prodigy ended up on the Summer Jam screen? Yeah, Drake did that.

And 74-year-old Kelly was right in the mix with a hype man performance to make even Flava Flav question his place in the hypeman history books.

But what first began as laughing at Kelly, better known as @Norm or the 6 Dad, has grown into laughing with Norm and, just like hype men Jermaine Dupri and Diddy before him, the septuagenarian has seen his star rise meteorically.

Future brought Norm on stage with Drake at his concert, Norm-inspired merchandise with the tagline “We The Norm” has popped up and Kelly was named Twitter Canada's Most Valuable Tweeter of the year beating out big Canadian names like Justin Bieber. Norm Kelly, once the quiet deputy mayor Ward 40 Scarborough-Agincourt councillor, is now a bit of a Toronto celebrity.

But what about Norm Kelly’s day job? The one he was first elected to back in 1994. What has he actually done for Toronto and the ward that he was elected to serve? Well, not a lot of positive stuff.

While Norm is down with Black culture he isn’t really down for Black people. His Twitter persona is not at all in line with who he is as a politician. When he’s not tryna be down with hip hop, he’s voting against much-needed infrastructure and proposals that would help out his constituents in Scarborough, a racially and economically diverse area that desperately needs support.

The former Rob Ford ally (you remember that disaster, don’t you?) defended cuts to school playground equipment and multicultural groups, was against maintaining funding for bike lanes, voted against restoring cuts to public libraries which serve as community hubs especially for the poor and racialized, is a big supporter of privatizing everything—from public housing to water to waste—and is also a climate change denier with one of Toronto council’s worst voting records on the environment. Kelly has also been investigated and called out a number of times for using government funds to quench his wanderlust.

Norm Kelly is a fairweather politician who is on whatever side has the most power. For the latest act in his 30 year political career, Norm has hitched his star to one of Canada’s most famous faces.

While many have laughed with him, we’re finally seeing people start to question the politician, on Twitter and in the media.

Kelly definitely knows how to play the political game behind of and in front of closed doors. Now it’s time for him to put his Twitter fingers where his mouth is.

Yo, Norm. Get back to work.
    :sas2:
it's crazy how we are quick to welcome cacs in our culture without checking if they are really down of just trying to get a quick come up
