you shouldn't ever try to do that. the rule of thumb, for me at least, is if, and only if, she's pursuing you. the only times these situations have occurred with me is when the old girl has shown a lot of interest in me and basically makes it clear she's trying to get with me. i wouldn't ever knowingly or intentionally go after a friend's old jump off. that's just my rule though. i figure if that's the way it goes, it's known from the start, and it's made clear, that the woman is more responsible for the event...
