Just curious to get the educated Coli consensus on this potential hoax in the making?

Do you think these muthafukkas were high on Walter White's meth watching Total Recall when they decided to troll us with this Tv reality show on Mars project? :lolbron:

After doing some background reading (on their site), I can confirm they're dead serious and I have to admit, I am really pulling for this to actually work. They have some serious brainpower and clout behind them and let's be honest .... TV is where the money is at. I think it's the most viable plan out there right now for getting to Mars!

If this is for real, how many of you would at least watch the TV show?

Cliff's Notes for those who aren't familiar with Mars One:

  • -Non-profit based in Europe. Aims to send a manned mission to Mars (one-way trip) by 2023.

  • Financing is planned to be mostly through media revenue. THey plan to make it a sort of reality show following the selection, training, and actual mission.

  • Serious brainpower on-board with this. Realistic plan of the mission and the technology and equipment needed.

Yo fam read the actual post...(& visit the site)... the Former Director of Technology for NASA is on-board the project. , their idea of a reality TV show to fund it is genius. The show would follow the final selection process, training, and launch. It sounds stupid at first. But think about it. YOU'D watch, wouldnt you? I know I would. It'd be hard not to. I think they're on to something.

Like I said, I fully admit, I am biased, since I so badly WANT them to succeed.:wow:

What happens if the show is boring and gets cancelled? Do they just cut off the show and let them die? Like it's day 700 and people are sick of them walking by the same looking rocks. Or is this gonna be another one of them housewives shows where the people just be arguing all day over bullshyt.

Terraforming (literally, "Earth-shaping") of a planet, moon, or other body is the theoretical process of deliberately modifying its atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology to be similar to the biosphere of Earth to make it habitable by Earth-like life.

The term "terraforming" is sometimes used more generally as a synonym for planetary engineering, although some consider this more general usage an error.[citation needed] The concept of terraforming developed from both science fiction and actual science. The term was coined by Jack Williamson in a science-fiction story ("Collision Orbit") published during 1942 in Astounding Science Fiction,[1] but the concept may pre-date this work.

Based on experiences with Earth, the environment of a planet can be altered deliberately; however, the feasibility of creating an unconstrained planetary biosphere that mimics Earth on another planet has yet to be verified. Mars is usually considered to be the most likely candidate for terraforming. Much study has been done concerning the possibility of heating the planet and altering its atmosphere, and NASA has even hosted debates on the subject. Several potential methods of altering the climate of Mars may fall within humanity's technological capabilities, but at present the economic resources required to do so are far beyond that which any government or society is willing to allocate to it. The long timescales and practicality of terraforming are the subject of debate. Other unanswered questions relate to the ethics, logistics, economics, politics, and methodology of altering the environment of an extraterrestrial world.

I would most def watch this, if they manage to even GET to Mars with the crew alive and then tragically crash and die, we'd still have HD footage of a big step in human history:blessed: I actually hope they pull it off, it's a huge achievement for human kind and since they're planning to send more crews to add on to the first they could really get something revolutionary going. When funded through the combined income of worldwide tv-shows it would also be more like the first 'human' achievement that can't be claimed by a singular country or people, the more I think about it, the more I hope they succeed:ohlawd:

I'm pretty sure if they succed it won't be in the epic butterfly and rainbows way I'm imagining it right now though:ld:

This. It's a one way trip. They're probably looking for people in their 20s/30s too. Who is gonna throw the rest of their life away to live on Mars?

Also, like someone mentioned, what if the show gets canceled because people lose interest? Do they just leave the people on Mars to rot away and die? It'll never happen.
