:ohhh:

Seems the 25 year grey market exemption rule will apply to the 1989 Nissan Skyline GTR, as long as it's unmodified it will be exempt from DOT/NHTSA rules. I've always wanted one and you can find them dirt cheap online my mind is telling me no, but my body, my body is telling me yes.

I love the boxy/utilitarian look they have, all business and the fender flares remind me of the E30 M3. I would guess the hardest part would be finding a stock one, or just wait until the 1990s are exempt since they sold more.

Im in toronto and you can already import them here. The rule here is 15years. I saw a r32 gtr the other day and Ive seen R33 gtrs here. Next year R34 GTRs will be eligible for import too.. I think they started making them in 1999.

It will be able to be imported but there are a couple other expenses that you will need to figure in. That's going to be a hot commodity. The demand will increase the price. Another person already said it, but Canadians have been able to import them for the past 9 years. Still, there will be a bunch out there from Australia and Japan. Second, transportation costs need to be added. Third, getting JDM parts will be hard, but doable, and costly. You will need to connect with someone who knows what you want (importer) or you will have to take Japanese language lessons and do it yourself.
You may be better off just buying a more moddable USDM import.

The price of a container and having the car shipped isn't really that much, the parts can be sourced, it would be a second car so if it breaks and I have to wait months that's fine. From what I understand, the R32 has several parts in common with that shytty old Infiniti J30 believe it or not.

There's not much sub $10,000 that will hang with this thing on a road course, the 89 R32s were right around 3100lbs :wow:

$10,000??? :dahell:

The R32 might cost $3,000 to $4,000 for the car only. Paperwork, taxes, and transportation is going to cost around $3,500.
Who knows what problems the car may have. That's $6,500 for a fixer-upper.

As for the road course comment, it's a 25 year old car. The suspension work is going to cost around $1,200 to get it back to carve-mode and engine/transmission work can go anywhere from $4,000 to $8,000 depending on what issues the engine/trans have.

Oh yeah, don't try to import a newer R32, like a 1990 model. That hasn't passed the 25 year minimum. Customs will confiscate it and all your money is gone.

The R32 might cost $12,000 for the car only. Paperwork, taxes, and transportation is going to cost around $7,000.

Fam, where are you looking that an R32 will cost $12,000, I've seen them for dirt cheap and well under $10,000 in some cases. I don't care about a car being a project and don't need a pristine model, simply stock to get it here. Like I said it would be a second car and I know all about them and their problems, from them having weak oil pumps to their trannies shytting the bed on the 3rd to 4th shift.

I was about to bite the bullet on a MotoRex GTR before they went under.

I was looking at an Australian importer site. My bad.

It would be cheaper and easier to work on any USDM RWD Nissan and swap in an RB26DETT.

Nah breh, you can find them ridiculously cheap at Japanese auctions, it's why so many servicemen had them, dudes were copping them for like $3000-5000.

I don't want RWD or any USDM Nissan (outside of the 2014 GTR) for that matter, if I can't find a suitable GTR I may turn my attention to the Pulsar GTI-R which uses an SR20DET which is extremely common in the US even though it was never sold here.

Turbo AWD, think they become eligible next year.
