Basically it's an old virus discovered in 2017, before Coronavirus that they're studying. It is a Pangolin virus that can also affect rats.
They grew a mutant version in the lab and tested it on rats with a human gene. It killed all the rats through brain infection.
It's just them studying the virus on rats. They do shyt like this to understand how viruses could potentially mutate and affect humans
