Apparently Cary Fukunaga, the director of True Detective's first season and possibly the main creative force behind the film adaptation of IT, is out and the studio has put the film on hold indefinitely. Now of course a director leaving a project is nothing new and it happens all the time, especially when it comes to the budget and the studio wanted to cut the budget for this one and he refused to budge. But here's why they wanted to cut the budget:

Another source indicated that New Line was getting cold feet about the project in the wake of the less-than-stellar opening of “Poltergeist,” which featured a clown in its marketing materials.

They're putting the project on hold because another horror movie featuring a clown didn't fare well at the box office therefore, audiences must not like horror movies about clowns. This is why all the talks about studio execs being insidious and having it out for us and being calculated are clearly overblown. As batman would say, they're a cowardly and superstitious lot.

I mean..what the hell :deadrose:

and it's a pathetic excuse, really though? a fukking clown?

I mean..it's crazy. It's the same reason studios were hesitant to greenlight a female superhero movie because of Elektra and Catwoman. So they were nervous about it working out. Same reason it took 5 years after Batman and Robin to do a big superhero adaptation because they were scared and hesitant and felt like "well, they didn't like this so the audience won't like superheroes"

Was never gonna be as good or scary as the original anyways. And I thought it was gonna be a miniseries on tv not a movie. Guess I was wrong.

I think it'd be a lot scarier breh...one is a mini series made for tv and the other was going to be two full feature length films. Less restrictions

What? 2 it remakes were in the works? That's a little too much dont you think?

No he was splitting them into two movies like the way the book tells two different stories, with one being about them as kids and the other about them as adults. So it was going to be bigger in scope and storytelling with a lot more money behind it.

Gotcha. I don't think I would revisit that story anyways breh. That clown was a nightmare from my childhood. I dont even wanna know how they intend on making him more scary.

let's be real only a small handful of people were excited for this project and they were mainly film nerds. It, is not a popular series among the new age and all the people who would see this movie are old as dirt now and are not interested in watching scary bloody disturbing films anymore
