You're wrong, Hawk was never his manager and didn't "discover" the Weeknd, he was just his boy from Scarborough (they have mutual friends that went to the same high schools -Birchmount C.I and West Hill-) If anything, Lamar was his first REAL manager. He was the one who put Abel on that "downtown life" and linked him with a lot of people.
The idea of the "the Weeknd" was only invented when Abel met Jeremy Rose, a producer from Toronto who Abel formed a group with = The Weekend. Abel was performing under the name "The Noise" before and made vastly different R&B music. His very early recordings didn't have the same dark undertones that he became popular for in R&B/Pop music. Jeremy Rose gave him the template for that with the beats he currently had (Loft Music, What You Need and the sample and song structure for "The Party and After Party). Supposedly due to "creative differences" they parted and The Weekend became the Weeknd. Prior to this, Abel was just linking up with random producers throughout the city with Lamar and recording (under the Noise). Believe it or not, Abel even recored to some of T-Minus beats very early on (before Drake blew up).
