So when did shaving your pubic hair become the social norm in society?

I'm in my 20's. So ever sense I was in my teens shaven pubic hair was always the norm, but from what I know about the 70's/80's, it wasn't always like that. What changed from then to now? Alotta people say it's 90's, when we as a society started becoming so youth obsessed. Is that true?
