So when it's negative, the black community is the blame. When it's positive, that black person is an individual.

Above the fray.
I like Akala. Would like to see the full video and what he's directly responding to.

Think I disagree with what I hear in this clip. I bet the same people and forces he's arguing against would point to the success of that subgroup of students to their cultures and not to them being great individual students.

This isn't anything new. It's how black people in America have been treated for hundreds of years. Use one thing to demonize all of us, but if one person does good, it's about that one person only even though they might still downplay and/or dismiss the positive thing the black person did.

If a group has negative stereotypes then any behavior to the contrary is considered an exception to the rule. I like the way he put it regarding groups vs individuals.

The thing is people are willing to accept stereotypes when they benefit them.

So wait a min wait a min wait a min....

Are you trying to tell me that Black people deal with racism not just in the US, but globally? :dwillhuh:

Are you telling me that other Black people across the diaspora are NOT our enemies and they face the same foolishness that we face over here? :ohhh:

I just want to make sure I'm understanding you here :jbhmm:
