This is kind of old news, but still worth bringing up.

PARKER COUNTY, TEXAS There was little chance of defeat when Aledo's undefeated Bearcats faced Fort Worth's Western Hills on the football field Friday.

The final score, 91-0, though, led one parent to file an official complaint of bullying against the entire coaching staff, reports CBSDFW.com.

Aledo ISD administrators say the complaint suggests the coaches should have told players to take it easy on the competition.

"I would never ask our kids not to play hard," said Aledo football coach Tim Buchanan. "I would never tell them, 'Go out and let them score.' That's not what you want to teach kids."

Buchanan said by halftime, when his team was up 56 points, he began actively trying to keep the score down, subbing in backup players, letting the clock run continuously, and instructing players to make fair catch calls.

"You don't want to embarrass... I've been on the other side of those scores. In 2011, Lake Travis scored 62 points on us. That doesn't feel good. It doesn't make the kids feel good," said Buchanan.

As for the bullying allegations, Aledo Superintendent Derek Citty said the district is following the same procedure it does with all bullying complaints. "We have to do an investigation and make sure there's no legitimacy to it."

The superintendent said, however, he's confident his coaches acted appropriately... something the football staff has asserted all along. "There was nothing unfair about it [the score] other than the fact that our players were better than their players," Buchanan said.

CBS 11 calls made to the Western Hills coaching staff were not returned.

Aledo ISD administrators are hopeful the University Interscholastic League (UIL) will place them in a different district next year, matching them against tougher competition.

Now I'm not saying that bullying isn't bad or that it doesn't happen when it shouldn't. I'm just saying that this isn't bullying and that it might be indicative of how we're a bit too ready to call bullying on shyt that we simply don't like.

Bullying is a stretch of course, but it seems the idea of bullying has become much broader now. Whats funny about this is that concepts of fairness, sharing, thoughtfulness, and consideration, which are absolute rules for kids, become aggressively frowned upon as you age. You absolutely regress as a person as you become older, and I dont even think you become that much smarter either.

:manny: Not sure how you'd quantify that, but I've seen plenty turn it around. The fact that the bullying claim needs to be taken seriously is pretty bad, not to mention embarrassing to the players on the losing team. Seems to me that by overly broadening the definition of bullying makes it mean a lot less.

Beating kids by damn near 100 pts is an attempt to humiliate and demoralize them. Thats not competition at all, rather its having fun at the embarrassment of another. That seems to fit into the bullying framework to me, although I do think calling it bullying is a stretch as I said earlier. Whatever happened to the 'mercy' rule?

Good lord you had better be trolling. That is seriously the dumbest thing I've ever read. Watch the video, read the article. The winning coaches tried their best to take it easy on the opposite team and still, nothing.

It was a really dumb comment that made it especially clear that you didn't read the article, watch the interviews, or apply any critical thinking to any of the material in the article. You came in with your predictable sanctimonious nothingness and seriously made a group of kids to be some sort of victims because they suck at football.

Kill yourself

I refuse to support the pussification of the future generation. Between everything being overly PC and boys being taught to grow up without nuts, the up coming generation of kids are gonna be soft as fukk. I expect suicide rates to adjust accordingly.

Back in highschool we regularly lost games by 40 and 50 points even lost 63-0 one time. :manny: But it's always cause we didn't have our shyt together or them nikkas was just that better than us. shyt not always fair :yeshrug: Nikkas should stop crying and just be happy they can play football. Cause I know if I could go back in time, I'd do it all over again same blowout scores cause a nikka was just happy to be on the field.

I was just talking about this with some friends last nite

Society is like a pendulum that swings. 40 yrs ago people were putting their kids to sleep with whiskey and feeding them paint chips :manny:

Now we are the result of the generation that said 'hey, we were a little reckless'. There is a movement brewing saying that now we are too protective. Eventually we will find balance... it will take decades tho

as a former hs football coach:

bullying? no.
unsportsmanlike? yes.

i hate when coaches run up scores like this, but then have the nerve to tell players when they score to "act like you've been there before." a mercy rule should have been called after the 70-0 skunk, and karma is a muhfukka. :manny:

so how many taunting penalties were called during the game?:patrice:
if none or average numbers, then... :manny:

i'm an assistant football coach
the article does nothing to indicate unsportsmanlike conduct
--used reserve players
--used running clock
etc.

personally we cut it off at 35-0 (not 56)
i would maybe add no trick plays, take a knee on turnovers, no long passes, etc.

but there's only so much you can do:what:

Seems as if the coaching staff and players tried to keep the game from getting out of hand. If anything, they should look into a mercy rule or something. The talent gap was insurmountable and they got their asses whipped. It happens. Get better as a team or appeal for a mercy ruling to be set into place for amateur athletics at the middle/high school level.
