‘well we knew that 7 years ago

predictable. :snooze:

but a more serious discussion has already been had

Y’all think about everything I’m console wars context.

Microsoft ain’t even trying to compete with Sony. They don’t need people to switch from PS5. They are trying to reach gamers wherever they are. Mobile, PC, console, whatever

Yes, they are. Along with all other forms of entertainment. And my last point was in regards to PlayStation fanboys’ fears of Sony losing ground to Xbox.

technically you’re right as the xbox console is still a thing but they are clearly looking at moving beyond that...they’ll probably always make consoles but to serve as a “home base” for game pass when it becomes what they’re aiming for...game pass will be like amazon prime and the xbox will eventually be like the fire stick

They aren't really competing with them now on it. Microsoft as a company is built for recurring revenue from subscriptions. They simply transitioned their business model for video games as well. Them selling you an Xbox is simply a vector for them to get you to subscribe to their service.

I think it's a genius move on their part. Others have argued against it but look at books, audiobooks, movies, music, shows, comic books. All these media forms have adapted to subscription models for or around $10 a month that get you access to an instant library of content. It is inevitable video games do the same. In due time people will begin to expect it.
