Compounding the obvious offensive struggles are the well-reported rebounding and defensive woes. Again, the numbers show obvious problems. The Warriors had a respectable rebound rate last season, 51.3% — good enough for eighth in the NBA. This season, 45.2% — a miserable 27th rank, ahead of only the Sixers, Pelicans and Wizards. They’ve seen a similar tumble in defensive rating. Last season, they gave up 100.9 points per 100 possessions — tied for 4th in the NBA. So far this season, 108 points per 100 possessions — another miserable 27th ranking, ahead of only the Wizards, Pacers and Wolves. Even if the Warriors weren’t struggling to hit their shots, their poor execution on the defensive glass (where they’re currently ranked 29th by percentage) and defense in general would make it difficult to beat playoff-caliber opponents.
Early but ugly.
