he'll be ok in the long run, but he needs a high profile D Co. I don't care if they have to name dude assistant HC, they need someone who can turn that side of the ball around

And Sumlin has never had one in his coaching career. Bad combination at play here.
A&M will be fine, but don't know if they will be great. Sumlin has always fielded bad defenses. Its pretty much what happens to the uptempo all the time teams that are so pass heavy. Their defense is on the field too much and they don't face a good running team in practice everyday. Briles is trying to remedy that at Baylor by being far more run heavy, but they still score too quickly. If you go 3 and out in that offense you're on the field for less than 30 seconds of game clock. If you score in less than 2 minutes of game clock you're wearing out your defense over the course of the season. There simply has to be some balance in that regard.
I don't think the anger is racially motivated either. I try to school yall on A&M all the time and I think its just hard to get them from the outside. I can't imagine how those of you with no real proximity to them see them. They are just a weird ass school. It seeps through the culture of the school. Part of that is always trying for the quick fix and has often been cheating with lots of NCAA sanctions. Look at their stadium. They wanted to have a huge stadium so badly after not even selling out an 80,000 seat stadium regularly. They wanted a flashy coach that would give them swag. They are just pissed now because they think they should win it all every year. The sound you are hearing is them realizing they don't have that strong base that teams like Alabama has developed with great lines and assignment defense. That's just not easily fixed and they threw $5 milli at Sumlin as quickly as they could. As weird as they are, they are Texans and they know what solid football looks like. They are realizing that schools like Miss St and Ole Miss have surpassed them in that sense. Now they are seeing that an afterthought Texas team is starting to look solid and even spectacular at times, which is starting to catch the eye of recruits they once thought were locks to ride the Swag copter to College Station.
