Fascinating, no doubt, but damn that's a lot of moving parts that can break. Truthfully I can probably see this happening small scale, like say a new community development...or maybe a mall/entertainment center .

besides the moving parts may give it the fluid it needed to handle the expansion contraction cycle of the seasonal temp changes

it may be possible that these roads self-heat in order to prevent contraction from ice buildup

I was thinking more on the lines of the electrical component. Instead of some meathead dumping an asphalt patch in a hole you now need a certified technical troubleshooting why the cell stopped blinking.

I have a feeling the pieces will be modular with the electrical components fully integrated and shipped from the factory
just swap it out and ship it to the factory for repair
