Looks Like Xbox One is Half as Good as PS4 in Sales; 18 Million Consoles Sold
Well, Xbox One is surely a worthy opponent to the PS4, but it looks like the gaming community considers it only half as good. While Microsoft has conveniently decided not to share sales figures any more, some statistics revealed recently suggest that so far they have managed to sell 18 million Xbox Ones.
And yes, thankfully that figure is for consoles sold, and not shipped.
There is no doubt that Microsoft has had a very good holiday season with major game sales boosting their financials, but the lead between them and PS4 has finally touched the rumored 2:1.
Mary Jo Foley, a known Microsoft analyst has revealed that about 200 million Windows activations were made and that out of those, 18 million were for the Xbox One. While this is not official, it is reliable and probably the best we are going to get since Microsoft won’t talk.
Well, we reported on how the PS4 sales had touched 35 million in sales recently. So 18 million, 35 million… same launch dates, arguably the same resources, what does that tell you.
In all honesty, Microsoft is doing pretty well with the sales so far and saying that they have failed would be unfair. There are some really amazing titles that they have released (or plan to release) and truly, at a time when people were complaining about the lack of exclusives on PS4, Microsoft had more.
However, that is also the point of concern here, even with established console seller franchises like Halo – and all that Microsoft could think of doing – they have not been able to shrink the sales gap with PS4.
On a side note, it was speculated by Blake Jorgensen, the CFO of EA that both the consoles will cumulatively reach 51 million by the end of 2015 – it looks like he was right.
