BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police have confirmed a man has been arrested in relation to the stabbing of two park rangers while they were patrolling Boston Common late Tuesday afternoon. The incident reportedly happened at around 5 p.m. near the sailors' and soldiers' monument. According to Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans, Bodio Hutchinson a 34-year-old homeless man lunged at the city rangers, unprovoked, stabbing them multiple times. The public, Evans said, helped by taking photos, cellphone video and not letting the suspect get away.
Suffolk University student Marlee Melvin said she saw the two park rangers approach a man, and ask him to put out his cigarette.
"He said, 'no, leave me alone,' and they tried to get him to do it," Melvin said. "And he just stabbed both of them."

Jason Marchant heard the struggle, and ran to the scene.
"We came up and we saw a bunch of people. Two cops bleeding. One of them in the arm, the other clutching his stomach, bleeding on the bench," Marchant said.
Before ambulances arrived, witnesses ripped off their shirts and tended to the two park rangers, trying to stop the flow of blood.
The two injured rangers have been taken to the hospital. One victim, a 20-year veteran sergeant ranger, who is 46 years old, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, and was in critical condition Tuesday night. He suffered severe wounds to his abdomen, Evans said. The other ranger, who is 23 years old, was taken to Tufts Medical Center and his condition is considered more stable.
The suspect has a violent past history, Evans said. He had warrants out for his arrest for arrest and battery on an officer, as well as drug-related offenses. Evans said Hutchinson allegedly discarded the knife he used to stab the rangers, and officers recovered it.
