Some of our ancestors were on this poster. Right above the farm animals.

Stop pawging.

Most of all #reparationsdue

I've been here. The Old Slave Mart in Charleston SC. Very eye opening experience. Me and the lady who ran the spot got to talking about Nova Scotia, and how much that was the place where blacks in the south wanted to relocate, and Luoe Fiasco's Drogas Wave album.

Very emotional place if you have it in you. Also learned that many white people were taught there trade from the slaves who were masters in their fields. Smiting, ship building and sailing, crop growing like rice. Whites had to come and get schooled from so called inferior humans. Which is a bug reason they needed west Africans as slaves. The natives completely shut down when enslaved.

This is why it’s very important to keep shouting that we literally built this nation. Ironworks, agriculture, culinary, ship building, the oyster trade, etc etc

i found my ancestor looking through Virginia’s archive of free blacks during the slavery era. My ancestor was freed by his half brother after his father died.

Glad you brought the last part up. A lot of books I can recommend about what happened during and post Reconstruction about the very topic of the freed slaves being better at EVERYTHING after the Civil War and what the white southerners did about that.

Those racist cacs were SEETHING/ANGRY/JEALOUS at the money, assets, land former slaves were acquiring because of their skills. Those former slaves were becoming a bigger asset to the American economy than the traitorous cacs. That sparked a lot of catalysts for burning down entire thriving Black towns, running Black families off their property and homes.

You can research back to a lot of these acres whites in the south have now because they literally stole and ran off (through violence), Black families from their property. ADOS are literally owed the 40 acres and a mule and much more.

ETA: The ones that took their skills to the North after the civil war had immigrant cacs heated too. A lot of Irish were burning down white owned factories and demanding they stop giving Black former slaves jobs even though the former were harder working, more efficient and knew a lot. It was a no brainer to hire Black men and women. These skills got lost over time bc Black men and women were LITERALLY prevented from using them. So what was the point of even passing it down to their children was the ending result. Hence basically where we are today.

The banking mortgage market came from slavery.

“In colonial times, when land was not worth much and banks didn't exist, most lending was based on human property.” He adds that “many Americans were first exposed to the concept of a mortgage by trafficking in enslaved people, not real estate.”

There is also a Confederate museum across the street from the Old Slave Mart. Very interesting place.

Also

On Oct. 19, 1870 the first African Americans were elected to the House of Representatives.

Black Republicans won three of the four congressional seats in South Carolina: Joseph H. Rainey, Robert C. Delarge, and Robert B. Elliott. (Hiram Revels had been elected in 1869 and seated in 1870 to the Senate.)

SC was a mecca post Slavery, until they banned blacks from almost everything because we were amassing massive power very quickly

I knew about this, was taught about it growing up but I never had any documentation on it. Do you have any?
