Great consensus brehs . . I thought I've been harboring unpopular tastes but these Song Battle threads have proven that despite what one might assume we seem to be leaning the same way - Prince's song is great and it's him coming into the form of the greatness we know him for but it's like he was still finding himself artistically, thanks to pressure from the label to produce something commercial (or they were going to stick him with Verdine White from Earth Wind & Fire as a producer for his project - something he was very stubbornly against) . . and in finding himself he really went overboard to let us know . . "Hey, I'm here . . I'm androgynous . . get use to it"

I saw him perform once. He came down from the stage at the end. Security was coming over to guide him and his bandleader instructed "no security necessary, we won't be needing that" . . he walked through the crowd. He had a large hat on and he put his head toward my head and held it there for a moment, it felt like I was hugging the pope. Keep in mind . . this man is the archetype of Snoop Dogg's whole persona.

On the other hand, I love Prince and he's one of the most talented and gifted people in music . . but I feel like he would shoo me away with a walking stick before letting me get within 3 feet of him
