Valve doesn’t make half the amount of money Sony does in gaming and they don’t make as many games anymore eithe

- Highest profit
- Most critically acclaimed games
- Highest software sales combined first and 3rd party
- Most subscriptions
- Leader in accessories in peripherals
How?If we want to be completely honest the leader in gaming would be valve.
Because the first thing everyone says when something they don't like about a console happened is they are going to go to PC, in a nutshell a lot of these console gamers default back to PC at the drop of a dime, on top of already using it consistently.
And if folks wanted to split hairs about it they could say Microsoft is the number one leader in business and entertainment with the Windows/Xbox platform... But again that goes back around to how broad this statement is.
Depending on how you frame it almost everything said in this thread can be true or false.
Like people would probably assume tiktok and X lead in MAU nope it's Facebook.
All this "leader" stuff is talking points and depends on what's important to them. Is it marketshare or MAU. Would you give up 25% market share for 25% increase in MAU?
On paper that might look devastating but in reality it could be extremely profitable long term.

Yeah it's dumb isn't it. Yet this is same reasoning as why "Sony is a leader in entertainment"
"They own, they develop, they publish" therefore they are.
Sony is the leader in gaming... but mobile gaming revenue dwarfs console gaming revenue 3:1... with Sony only taking a fraction of that console share divided between them, MS, and Nintendo (and to say nothing of PC gaming as a whole being right up against consoles). Sony is the leader in film... but Disney and Universal double their market share, with Disney owning 8 of the top 10 grossing films in human history and the #1 and #3 biggest film franchises on earth. The biggest entertainment IP on earth is Pokemon by an insurmountable margin... that belongs to Nintendo.
And then Disney has #2,3,4,5, and 8 on that list after Pokemon. I guess Sony Music IS bigger than Universal now ... but Spotify stomps all over record labels revenue-wise when it comes to music, even with the labels owning content rights.
