Sony kicks top executive to the curb after terrible U.S. sales.

In a bid to increase consumer electronics sales in the U.S., Sony replaced Sony Electronics (SEL) President Phil Molyneux with Michael Fasulo, who has been with the company since 1984, The Wall Street Journal reports. Molyneux, also the current COO of SEL, will become a non-executive Chairman. Joining Fasulo, who’s currently the Executive Vice President of the company in charge of sales and retail execution for the region, will be Toshifumi Okuda who will become the Deputy President on January 1, 2014 when the changes are scheduled to occur.

Sony’s CEO Kaz Hirai hopes that the change in leadership will be beneficial for the company.

“Mike and Okuda-san’s strong backgrounds in sales and marketing will serve them well as SEL puts renewed focus on customer relations to drive expansion of our business in the United States,” the CEO said. “The industry continues to be challenged by economic conditions in the US as it is elsewhere in the world, but I am confident that Mike and Okuda-san will build on the progress achieved by Phil and make SEL’s future even brighter than its illustrious past.”

The company clearly looks to improve sales in the region, as the U.S. is one of its most important markets. Sony has recently slashed its profit forecast by 40%, for the year, cutting targets for several products including TVs, PCs, digital cameras and video cameras. Sony also sells smartphones and the already popular new PlayStation 4 console in the region, as well as digital content.

True they need to turn that around asap. But trust they going to try and leverage their services on the PS4 that why its some of its features are missing. And they will take their time implementing some of them in I believe.

Yes they are, Sony products tend to be more expensive then other brands but the features and quality is not better. They stuck in the 80's - 90's where they was "apple" before apple mentality. Hopefully the new guys understand and change their vision.

That's the main reason they're going in a different direction.

They have put out some really great mirrorless cameras over the years and people don't even know about them. I was reading about this over on some of their camera forums on dpreview's forums the other day.

No it seems like you see what you what to see. I never said this was about the PS4.

I remember back in the day my grandma had a Sony TV and it was top of the line. This was like 95 96. Back then Sony had a good reputation for electronics

They also make the sensors that Nikon uses, I think I'd cry if Sony went under. (not really) I don't even want to think of a world where canon and MS don't have major competition in the DSLR or gaming field. However, Sony hasn't made a product that I was since the ps3.

Actually yes. Very good ones actually. Their APS sensor camera lines are easily the best things they make. Now game consoles on the other hand....

My Sony Nex-6 handily outperforms my Nikkon D90 with ease.

I still have one of their tv's. it's a google smart tv, and its really good. however, my 4 other tv's are samsung, and the only reason I even got this sony was cuz it was a great deal on sale. I'd never pay a premium for their products if there's a comparable samsung available for cheaper.
