Some users are having problems connecting to the PlayStation Network, after Sony noted a "very high volume" on the service following the midnight launch of the PS4. There's no word yet as to when these issues are likely to clear up.

With hundred of thousands of new consoles in the wild, and a significant 308MB firmware patch to download, it's perhaps unsurprising to see issues at this stage.

Sony said it thanks users for their patience, and through its Ask PlayStation account asked them to "please sit tight" for the time being. That account directs people to a PlayStation Forum thread for further updates, and we'll be keeping an eye on how things develop too.

Update 12PM ET: PS4 owners will receive a notification that "Sony Entertainment Network is currently undergoing maintenance."

My download was actually fast, its getting kicked out of games and stuff that irks me.

Haven t had a problem with logging on yet. The update downloaded like a champ as soon as I got home with the quadruple. I can't get into the store right now tho

There's no way to simulate a stress test for this kind of launch. Kinda expected this. As least we can offline game.

Also those who think they've bricked their 4's can attempt to download the restore image (800MB+) and attempt to initialize their systems.

You lose everything that you've set up but you have a chance for a fresh start plus the restore image will put the 1.5 software on your system without the need for an update.
