The PS6 generation exclusive games likely will be years into the PS6’s life. They didn’t initially plan the PS4 to go so far into the PS5’s life (“we believe in generations”) but it’s safe to assume going into the PS6’s life the plan will be keep PS5 going 4-5 years with cross generation games. I mean they’re outright saying the focus is going to be MAU and not selling hardware. MAUs can be on old or new hardware.
All the cross gen ps5 games from Sony already started development on the ps4. All their games have been exclusive to the ps5 after that. There were also exclusives such as Rift Apart and Returnal that were not cross gen at release and within a year of release. This will continue with the ps6.
The other exclusives have been cross gen or exclusive to this generation. These other exclusives will be cross gen well into next generation as well as exclusive to next generation. There's the potential of there being more exclusives exclusive to next generation in the same period of time compared to this generation due to no COVID, studios that had their games cancelled releasing a new game, new playstation studios recently created, being created or being acquired, and 2nd party along with 3rd party.
COVID and the concentration on service games that were cancelled slowed down the schedule of releases this gen. Any cross gen ps6 exclusive from Sony would have already started on the ps5. Any games created by Sony after that will be exclusive to the ps6. Sony said they are concentrated on getting revenue via services, software sales, and player engagement, but that still requires a good amount of consoles being sold within a reasonable amount of time. Sony wants the ps6 to sell well as quickly as possible.
