Senior Sony executive fired after allegedly caught trying to have sex with 15-year-old boy
WASHINGTON (TND) — Sony has reportedly fired one of its senior executives after he was allegedly caught trying to have sex with a minor by a YouTube channel operating amateur sting operations targeting pedophiles.
The channel, People v. Preds, allegedly caught George Cacioppo, a senior vice president with Sony Interactive Entertainment, attempting to meet someone he thought was a 15-year-old boy for sex.
Screenshots of the alleged conversation leading up to the meeting show the person reported to be Cacioppo using the screen name “Hosting BJ 4U” and calling himself “Jeff.” The screenshots also showed the user calling themselves “Jeff” explicitly asking for the age of the person they were talking to.
“I just turned 15 2 weeks ago,” the decoy told “Jeff,” who allegedly returned with sexually explicit messages and images.
In the video posted by People v. Preds, the person alleged to be Cacioppo can be seen wearing a shirt reading “PS5” alongside Sony’s PlayStation logo. The camera person attempts to confront the man, but he retreated into his home without saying anything.
Sony said in an email to tech reporting outlet CNET that it was “aware of the situation" and "the employee in question” had been terminated from the company.
The San Diego Police Department's public information officer confirmed to The National Desk that there was an active investigation currently ongoing regarding this case.
People v. Preds told CNET it sent all relevant information to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, however, when TND reached out a spokesperson for the district attorney's office said they had not received the case from law enforcement yet.
TND also reached out to Sony Interactive to confirm the firing of Cacioppo but did not hear back before publication. This story will be updated if confirmation is received.
