Sony Warns Tight PlayStation 5 Supply to Extend Into Next Year

Sony Group Corp. warned a group of analysts the PlayStation 5 will remain in short supply through 2022, suggesting the company will be constrained in its ability to boost sales targets for its latest games console.

“I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand,” Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki said at the briefing, according to several people who attended and asked not to be named as it wasn’t public.

I dont think theres any amount of console realistically that sony could produce that would meet the demand for the PS5. Especially once more games start coming out, like R&C, HZD, GoW, Factions. This is why I’m glad i bought mine when i could get it cause all the next gen consoles are gonna be impossible to get this holiday season.

the shortage might last all of 2022
Sony has to make money and have financial revenue expectations for each financial quarter that require their games being released in a timely manner
They are going to release the games as soon as they are ready as there is no point in holding them back now
The PS5 has a high attachment rate
I preordered a PS5 to avoid this scenario
Returnal released, RE8 came out, R&C coming soon along w/ FF7 PS5 upgrade, Horizon coming out this year, maybe Ragnarok but likely for early 22, etc.
Each game release makes it harder to get a pS5
I've been playing my PS5 almost every day

yep...under normal circumstances I would’ve been picking up a PS5 either this month or still be waiting a full year until nov. later this year...I knew what time it was gonna be tho...I still want to go back in this thread and see who were the dudes laughing bcuz they thought they would just walk in and pick one up release day lol
