A year or two ago, the Coli provided some instruction on recording 360 deals, and the fukkery of being a music artists and how record labels basically taking everything.
The SHYT These Record Labels Do
So ya’ll don’t know but I just couldn’t get this shyt out of my head.

We discussed it a bit in that thread, but these artists renting fake chains and watches and houses and cars really got me thinking how true this is.

Are indie artists who get to keep their profits even tho they aren’t as marketed as artists signed to major labels, getting more money than others unless the artists are very popular…like Taylor Swift or something?

Very nuance

it’s impossible to become a superstar without being on a label.

Artist that are independent that are superstars have all been through the industry grind(frank, drake, etc).

It’s possible to make money without ever going industry (chance is the latest example) but you will never be superstar level.

you can make more money being independent if you are not a 90-100k plus artist

Nope… A successful artist signed to a major with a fair deal will make more money than a successful Indy artist.

:mjlol:

So the answer is no then.

As far as the thread, it depends. If you're a super star like Drake that is actually a brand, not just a performer....then it would be very difficult for an indie artist to meet that level of success.

But most signed artists aren't anywhere near that, and awful record deals are the norm, not the outlier. So on average I'd say a successful indie artist has a higher ceiling than the average signed artist, easily.

Aint no such thing as a "fair deal" Drake probably has a "fair deal" now and so does 'Ye but both still have people they don't fukk with eating off them from their slave contracts from years back.

That being said there's no way an Indy is getting to the big bag like the average nikka signed to a Major. NBA Youngboy is "independent/dependent" with a joint venture and he charts on the rap charts like Drake does on the Pop charts and you'd never know by the lack of exposure he gets.

They can with a following large enough to fill large arenas..

I can't think of anyone other than Chance who could fill and arena and even Chance ain't doing that now. Indies don't get oppertunities to headline festivals. The Festivals work hand in hard with the labels. Coi Leray is doing shows only because she's not a industry plant but a whole forest.

The exception isn’t the rule… He also had millionaire backing to start as well.

He isn't even the expection, does holmes make more per album? Yes, is he on all the playlists? On Radio? Headlining Festivals? Filling Arenas? On TV? have non music deals? Nope.

We can go ahead and shut the thread, we got the answer.

There are artists that are signed to fukked up 360s with more actual money than independent artists, and there are independent artists that are doing a lot better than some big name signed artists.

I will say that it does seem more likely that independent artists are making the majority of their money off of their music. By nature of how the label system works these days, you're seeing more artists able to attribute most of their money from non music related shyt.
