How much does that 61K generate at the gate though?

Because, for example, this Floyd/Canelo fight is generating almost $19MM at the gate...and it sits 16,800.

1. Because of the ease of travel and the internet, there are more people watching sports than ever before.

2. Klitschko is a rare white boxing and draws more white crowds. This doesn't mean he's the best boxer ever.

3. The only reason there are fewer American boxing champions in the modern era is because boxing's popularity has declined and the athletic youth don't care about boxing.

4. Like @Rev says, more spectators doesn't mean more money. When you want to increase the demand of a product, you lower its price.

I think style plays a big part in America's interest in boxing. Klitschko fights are boring until the knockout. Lennox Lewis fights were the same.

The most popular boxers in America have style & flair in the ring. There's more to boxing entertainment than knockouts. Non-Americans are shown in every other weight class because they tend to entertain.

If you add "entertainers" after "bad", what American commentators say about heavyweight boxing makes more sense.
