A lot of old heads and haters don't want to admit the production quality of today has eclipsed 90s and 00s production tenfold. They can hate all they want...they behind the times and stuck in the past. Not forward thinking or embracing of progressive change at all.
"Eclipsed" is without a doubt an exaggeration IMO.
Some of the production of today is great other production is just as samey and of the times
as production from any other decade. Especially when the current crop of top 40 singles
have been heavily influenced by Trap music.
Stuttering hi-hats and 808's everywhere.
Some of these trap beats are deceptively simple. 3-4 chords carried by sub bass and triplet hi hats. It just sounds more full bodied cause you can do alot more with beat production these days on computers and add the right amounts of reverb and whatnot.
I also don't think these Hi-Hats are triplets proper, they're more like 16th or 32nd notes.
There isn't a 1-and-uh when they're laid down instead there is a 1-e-and-uh.
I agree they can be deceptively simple though, the feel can be lost on people attempting to mimic the sound leading to stale and boring beats.
