Don't be a hero - The full story behind Spec Ops: The Line | The Verge
"The multiplayer mode of the Spec Ops: The Line was never a focus of the development," Davis said, "but the publisher was determined to have it anyway. It was literally a check box that the financial predictions said we needed, and 2K was relentless in making sure that it happened - even at the detriment of the overall project and the perception of the game."

Against Davis' wishes, development on the multiplayer component proceeded and was farmed out to Darkside Studios. The result, according to Davis, was a "low-quality Call of Duty clone in third-person," which "tossed out the creative pillars of the product." "It sheds a negative light on all of the meaningful things we did in the single-player experience," Davis said. "The multiplayer game's tone is entirely different, the game mechanics were raped to make it happen, and it was a waste of money. No one is playing it, and I don't even feel like it's part of the overall package - it's another game rammed onto the disk like a cancerous growth, threatening to destroy the best things about the experience that the team at Yager put their heart and souls into creating."

What's the arcadiums take on this?
I for the most part agree that all of these wack multiplayer add ons need to go, what's really the point of sticking a square peg into a round hole? But on the other hand when it's fully developed and plays to the strength of the series it can be very entertaining case in point: Mass Effect 3 still play this, UC2 and 3 great multis on both of these and don't say that the multi in 3 took away from the SP because 2 had multi and the SP was even more epic.
However there have been some very notable misses Max Payne 3 being a big one, I could never get into the MP, it was a typical Rockstar game which means clunky controls and tiny aim recepticles which is unacceptable for a MP game, I could list a ton more but I won't bother since I haven't wasted my time with most of them (e.g. Ninja Gaiden, That gravity game, some other weak garbage)
What say ye Arcadium brehs?

I hate this shyt too. I actually thought ME3 multiplayer ,while ok, hurt the single player. Bioshock 2 also comes to mind. Not all game franchises need multiplayer.

Get the hell out. ME3 MULTIPLAYER cured me of the tired old COD/BATTLEFIELD trance I've been in the last 4 years

Me3 single player sucked cause the writers suck

Show me another MP game that has bi-weekly community objectives and a CONSTANT influx of dlc for free??

LOL @ ME writers suck. ME2 says other wise. Like I said it wasn't bad, just not necessary. Without the multiplayer they could have focused more on the story and adding more side quest and other stuff to the single player.

have to disagree I've sunken so much time into the multi it's ridiculous.
All the free DLC, the events, everything it's not perfect by any means but it's definitely one of the premiere MP game out right now.
I've beaten ME1 once (didn't own an Xbox :yeshrug:) ME2 twice (paragon and renegade) ME3 once and a half (I'm on the last level (London) on my paragon play through but then I got more games :yeshrug:) but I've spent a TON of time with the multi I sent spent ~80hrs on the first 3 single players I've spent AT LEAST 40 on the multi and I get to play with brother in law and nephews, it's a beautiful thing

TORONTO!
I play the mp in ME3 more than any other game and there really ain't that much to it. Rockstar tried a little too hard when a simple co-op mode would've been fine. It's kinda the opposite of what happened with Spec Ops/Bioshock 2/etc. Mass Effects mp is pretty basic and might seem tacked on to some, but it's fun and has some addicting qualities whereas Max Payne has an ambitious mp with online clans and hardcore modes and everything else you see in multiplayer games, but it's just plain boring to me

IMO if you're gonna tack on multiplayer to raise the value of your game, just do co-op. nobody is gonna compete with Gears/Uncharted and COD/BF/Halo with some afterthought competitive mp so why bother. They always end up being a low budget clone anyways

Assassin's creed MP was pretty wack too. That shyt should be left alone, tacking on a wack ass MP just for the sake of it lowers the quality of the game as a whole for me. They need to stop making these devs do shyt just to follow suit and give nikkas some freedom with their games. The list of games that could've been so much better had they not wasted time and resources by forcing nikkas to create a MP that nobody fukks with is prolly huge as fukk.

I swear these nikkas are so out of touch it's crazy. We following checklists when making games now?? Really nikka? that's what's hot? :why:
