You think working for the government and using that as an example is a good one? Since when was this government efficient? I've worked for the government and all they want to do is quantify everything. I worked in the private sector in market research and they want to quantify everything. I worked in UX and we quantified qualitative shyt. I work in medical research and we of course use numbers. Quantitative data is so useful, because it lets you compare across items. This is why everybody is trying their hardest to quantify everything.
I'm aware of the qualitative shift many want to make. During my phd program, before I became a doctoral candidate, half of my class was qualitative only. They hated numbers. I silently laughed at them and quantified interview data in my qual class
Numbers make the world go around and are so useful. So, so useful.

Also, nobody is denying that numbers are important.
