Yes this was inspired by the "Blaze a 50" Thread. This is a debate that many fans overlooked in one of Big's great stories. The 1st song on the Classic "Life After Death" is "Somebody's Got To Die". This song is a masterful storytelling track and why Big was worthy of the name "Hitchcock of Hip Hop". It's basically the concept of a revenge hit gone wrong. One of Biggie's crew got shot and his boys come to the crib to let Big know. Big then sets up a crew to go and get revenge. He then says:

"N!ggas like you do ten year bids, miss the n!gga they want and murder innocent kids"

Big and his Crew goes to Jason house and notice he's having some type of meeting outside on the porch. It was raining at the time. Big and his crew go to shoot Jason but then:

"N!gga turned around holding his daughter"

Big and his crew shoots Jason and others then goes running but you can hear the baby fall to the ground and it's crying in the rain. Then Biggie says while running:

"I think I hit the baby kid"

The Kid continues to cry in the rain and takes what sounds like her last breath. Also you hear a heartbeat going faster and faster. I think the heartbeat represents Big and his boys running but also the baby's heartbeat. So the question is did Biggie end up doing what he told his boys not to? Murder innocent kids? It's a crazy story:

One of the dopest songs ever. I time I listen to that song, I feel like I'm there :whoo:

I love how the entire story is being played out in the background while the song is going on. You can actually hear the dialog in the back. The Sound Effects and Rain Drops make it a full cinematic experience. Bad Boy really changed the game with Storytelling cause of the sound effects.

The way it leads in from the intro >>>

You can say what you want about Puff but that was all him...it's a shame he snakes artists because his vision takes tracks to the next level and he could do a world of good for most of these NY artists.

Anyways I think Big did but it wasn't explictly said...I remember reading in the source/XXL in a piece it said something to the affect of Puff telling him to change the ending...it wasn't more specific than that but maybe in the original he said something about a bullet hitting the baby or some shyt.

That's a good point. Puff did make Biggie change a lot of lyrics back then. I wouldn't be shocked if the original rhyme did have Biggie shooting the baby and missing Jason. This story actually has a dark vibe like "Me and my B!tch" as far as the shock ending. The cool thing about Biggie's stories is he sucks you into the 1st two acts and then the final act is always some crazy off the wall ending.

Think Jason was in LA in 97 at the after party?

But the song is dope though. I think the kid got shot but its inconclusive.

LOL, I know your not serious but Jason couldn't of been at the After party cuz we know for sure he got shot. His body drops with the baby to the ground. I agree they left it kind of inconclusive and vague to an extent but all we hear at the end is the baby crying and them running off. So it's obvious nobody came an picked up the baby cause it was just lying there. I mean a baby lying in the rain with nobody to pick it up? It really does sound like it takes a final breath if you listen closely at the end.

Honestly I think the lyrics make you think the baby did get popped, but the sound effects make me think the baby did not. The crying is too clear and not garbled. The baby gets dropped, I'm sure one of Jason's buddies come scoop the shorty and raise it like real nikkaz do for they nikkaz.

love the "character" big is portraying in this one. We are suppost to believe big is this big time gangster. He is that mean: Cuz I'm a criminal way before the rap shyt
Bust the gat shyt
, Puff won't even know what happened

he may very well be, or have the aspirations to become one when times up but througout the story we see many of his actions go against this and he comes off as straight up inexperienced, nervous whatever but this was all part of the excellent writing obviously:

I'm sittin in the crib dreamin' about Lear jets and coupes

'Round the time I was locked up with you"
"True indeed,"
"But yo nikka, let me proceed
Don't fill them clips too high, give them bullets room to breathe

Wet em up no less than 50 shots in his direction"
"How many shots?""Man nikka, I seen mad holes"
"What kinda gats?""Heckler & Kochs and Calicos

50 shots. "How many?" Lol made him have to repeat himself

Revenge I'm tastin at the tip of my lips
I can't wait to feel my clip in his hips
"Pass the chocolate Thai"

Doesn't seem like the best time to get high...
and then your example in OP when he possibly murders the baby. Having interesting characters with personality/motivations is crucial for any story and that's why damn near all biggie stories on wax are memorable. Big was and is the king of the back-to-back dialouges. "Gimme the loot" "Warning" "nikkas Bleed" Nobody made that shyt more entertaining and vividly painted to listen too.

Exactly. He played all his characters and gave them all personality and back stories. This song was like an isolated thriller. I also like how the intro eludes to "Warning" with some of the lyrics.
