I was watching backlash and I'm watching the Naomi entrance... it's this spectacular light show and she's doin all these dance moves, and the crowd is getting super hyped, and I'm thinking okay this girl could be a star if they actually presented her like one.

Instead she's just 'Naomi'

Imagine if Superman were just 'Clark'.

Ehhhh, most of the women have always had single stand alone names outside of that era where nearly every woman had first and last names (Kristal Marshall, Jillian Hall, Candice Michelle, Ashley Massaro, Joy Giovonni, etc. If you go back further, there's Chyna, Jacqueline, Torrie Wilson, Mickie James, Ivory, Lita, Tori, etc. So I really don't think the women's names ever had any effect (good or bad) on their success. I don't think there's ever been women lumped with Michael McGillicutty or Oney Lorcan type names that are a failure right off.

Pretty much. As soon as the rock and brock left, Vince decided that every time someone got got enough, it's time to cool them down or strip away what got them over in the first place. From 2004/2005 onward, once they got hot enough, you could guarantee they would go on a long losing streak and be taken off tv, be booked like a coward heel and lose clean all the time, spend months with no story, or be fed to John cena several times over. Vince thinks like a pimp does. It means that he punishes anyone who gets over off their own ideas or who makes money independent of him. Look at stories told by Batista, ryback, how they booked Rey after Eddie died, how they booked Christian in 2005 and 2011, how they booked Bryan in 2013, how brock lost his first match back in a way guaranteed to diminish his star power, how they booked the miz when he was champion, how they buried Ryder and Kofi in 2009-14 and 2012-present day, how badly Ambrose was booked once the shield split, and how cesaro was booked once the real Americans split. Vince doesn't want another big star because the ones he still promotes aren't even wrestling anymore so there's no threat of them leaving him. Time and time again he has shown he would rather lose his own way as opposed to winning someone else's way.

Very good post with excellent examples. I'll just add MVP to that list. "Hey MVP, we know you can talk, have a lot of charisma, can wrestle, and draw good reactions from the crowd, and you're one of our top young heels....let's give you a losing streak gimmick that leaves you as a pitiful face:troll:"

Add in Sheamus 2014-2016 and 2016 Reigns.

Edit: And Barrett.

I'll give you Wade Barrett but LOLOL at Sheamus and Reigns, don't bring that marky shyt in here. Sheamus has been given plenty of opportunities due to being HHH's workout partner. The only time you could say Sheamus caught a bad break was around that time he was in Kevin Dunn's(??) doghouse, but that was already after he won the WWE title after Cena dove into a table like a fool. Reigns....again, man please, he's held the title 3 times in under two years, and the only reason he started catching a bad break was cause of his own doing for getting a Wellness Violation. He's basically being built right now the way he should've done earlier --- paying dues. What I will say is that currently, the crowd has no reason to boo him, they are simply just being followers. All those other names that @Miami316 listed had no reason to get buried/go on losing streaks and get screwed over like they did. Sheamus and Reigns are two entirely different cases, 1 of which was cause of their own doing.

Good one too. Then there's punk. Guy said at one point he wrote his own storylines for 18 months straight simply because they had no idea what to do with him. Had no idea he can work as a heel. Gave him and Rey 7 minutes at Wrestlemania for their match. Then of course they blew their shot at another boom period in 2011. Shelton Benjamin spent way too much time treading water with no storyline or development in 2004-2005 as well.
