To me, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time defined what all action RPGs and any quality 3d game did. The targeting system was :wow: , the day/night system of hyrule was :ohlawd: , and the exploration was unheard of outside of RPGs.

Ocarina of Time was a giant step, but the likes of Pacman or Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong were more important. They made gaming mainstream. By the time OoT came out the journey was well underway.

:patrice:Difficult question but I have to go with OP. OoT brought a whole new level to 3D gaming.

TORONTO!
PONG

after PONG, GTA3 defined open world 3D gaming, and its mature nature helped change the general perception of video games from just being kids playthings. fast forward to 2016, 'GTA clones' are still being made, and GTA V broke every damn sales record in history
