She did call up the airline to confirm she could bring it

Did she have it as a registered service animal? You can get paperwork for that. If she didn't, it sucks that they did this to her, if they did, but that's also on her for not having documentation saying that's her service animal.

I get having a pet or animal to anchor yourself too but if you don't have the paperwork that's on you. Still, shytty for them to do and they should get called on it.
